The rule or menstruation is without a doubt one of the biggest annoyances that we girls have to suffer every month. And on top of that, a week before it comes, many women also have to suffer from premenstrual syndrome: our character shoots up uncontrollably (we get in a bad mood, everything affects us more…), our body swells slightly, both the chest like the gut, and we get a little acne. And then, to add insult to injury, once we started our period we spent a minimum of four days bleeding and with certain discomforts, sometimes slight, sometimes real pain. It is true that not all girls suffer from painful periods and that many of them do not have premenstrual symptoms, but unfortunately, the vast majority of us suffer from both parts.

Luckily for all of us, we can at least feel cleaner during menstruation by using hygienic methods to contain blood, such as tampons, pads or the new menstrual cups, which are hygienic and have no side effects.

What are tampons?

Tampons are a kind of cylinder made of an absorbent material, and designed to obtain maximum convenience, comfort and hygiene during the menstrual cycle. The tampons have a cotton string at one end which helps us to remove them once we have to change it for a new one. They usually have an applicator that is made up of two cylinders that are reminiscent of a syringe: the interior, which is the one that we must push, and the exterior, which is the one that is located inside our body. This applicator helps us insert the tampon into our vagina and helps us improve hygiene, since we do not touch the tampon with our hands at any time.

Is it difficult to use tampons?

Without a doubt one of the most hygienic methods is the tamponIt is not a difficult method to use but not all girls opt for it. In addition, many are embarrassed to ask how they are used or have no one who can explain them to them. If this is your case, don’t worry, we are going to teach you how to use a tampon without pain and in an easy and simple way. You sign up?

Instructions for using a tampon

Step by step to use a tampon

  1. You can buy tampons at pharmacies or any supermarket. You can buy them at any supermarket if you are closer than a pharmacy. You have different makes and models. You can take a look at the varieties and start testing. You will soon get used to a specific brand and model and they will be the ones you use regularly. You will see that there are different types, as is the case with compresses, depending on the amount of menstrual flow you have.
  2. Wash your hands. Before putting in a tampon it is important to take maximum care of hygiene. Wash your hands before touching them to avoid possible infections.
  3. Do not get nervous. Putting in a tampon isn’t difficult, and it doesn’t have to hurt. The first few times it may be a bit complicated for you, because you do not know your anatomy in depth, but little by little you will get the hang of it and you will not even notice that you are wearing it. For the first contact, we advise you to put it on calmly for the first time in a quiet place. Try as many times as necessary and do not get overwhelmed.
  4. Choose the position that is most comfortable for you. Girls use different positions to put on tampons. Think that we are not all the same, and that each one feels more comfortable in one position or another. The most common are sitting on the toilet with your legs open, with one foot elevated, for example on the toilet bowl, or on your feet and slightly inclined.
  5. Once you choose the position, you will have to hold the tampon with your index finger and thumb by the non-slip area, right next to the cord that protrudes from the applicator. You will see that this area is usually rougher to prevent the tampon from slipping.
  6. Next, you will have to insert the outer applicator into the vagina. It will be easier if you tilt it a little bit. Think that the body is not straight and the tampon must follow the natural shapes of our vagina. Go gently pushing it in, just to the limit of the hold.
  7. When you get to the grip, you will only have to push the inner cylinder with your index finger, as if it were a syringe, so that the tampon begins to enter your body. The tampon will be completely inserted to its correct position once we have pushed the inner cylinder to the end, leaving it completely inside the outer cylinder.
  8. Now we only have to remove both tubes and throw them in the trash. To help us remove the tampon later, an absorbent cotton thread will remain on the outside.
  9. If the tampon is well placed you will not notice anything at all. If you notice any discomfort, do not complicate yourself, take out the tampon and repeat the process again with a new one.
